WA\ Cup

The Cosmic Cup, counted only in water. A solution scores on water that can be traced: caught, counted, kept and returned.

You can't share what you don't count. One inch of rain on one square foot of roof is 0.623 gallons, so every roof is a well, once you count it.

Rain into a cup, counted on a ledger Rain falls into a cup and the water rises. Underneath, a ledger line counts the gallons a 1,000 square foot roof in Kahului catches in a normal year: about 10,105. 1,000 sq ft roof · Kahului · a normal year 10,105 gal 1 inch of rain on 1 sq ft = 0.6234 gal
Every roof is a well, once you count it. Kahului's normal rain is 16.21 inches a year.

Why now

From commitments to action

In 2023 the UN Water Conference gathered more than 700 voluntary commitments into its Water Action Agenda. The 2026 conference meets in Abu Dhabi from 8 to 10 December, co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal, under the theme Delivering the Water Action Agenda: From Commitments to Action.

It is only the third UN Water Conference in almost 50 years, and the first led by two nations from the Global South. The WA\ Cup grades the second half of that theme, one roof at a time.

The grades

Four ways water counts

A number counts only when it can be traced. The WA\ Cup grades water in four states, and nothing else.

  • Caught

Rain on a roof or field you can name, collected. The ledger starts here.

  • Counted

Every gallon on the ledger, with where the number came from, in the open so anyone can check it.

  • Kept

Clean, stored and safe to drink, for as long as the filter or the tank is rated to last.

  • Returned

Water put back where it was taken from, and measured. In 2014 all four streams of Nā Wai ʻEhā flowed again, ten years after the community petitioned to bring the water home.

Price a solution in the open

Liters per dollar, traced

A household filter

LifeStraw Family lists at $69.09 and is rated to purify up to 18,000 liters. If a family uses all of it, that is about 260 liters for every dollar.

Rated capacity

A community water point

charity: water says its average project costs $40 per person, including sanitation and hygiene training, and that on average every dollar pays for 1,100 liters at a hand pump.

Water delivered, on average

The two numbers measure different things: a rating on a box on one side, water delivered on the other. That difference is the point of the Cup. It grades the liters someone can trace, not the liters on a label.

How it runs

Six stations, one loop

  1. Rain falls on the roof.
  2. The ledger reads it.
  3. The Cup checks it against its source.
  4. The Cube suggests a next move.
  5. You decide.
  6. The Cube acts, and the rain comes again.

The first ledgers start one roof at a time, from Waikapū. Season dates, places and prizes: TK.

WA\ through this lens

The whole product, in water

The citizen
A person who has verified they are human and owns their own ground. On the WA\ Cup the ground includes the roof.
The cube
Six faces of service, one number each. For water the cube suggests the next move, a gutter, a tank, a filter, and you decide before it acts.
The circle
A street, a church, a farm or a school that plants its ledgers together, on ground it owns. Thirteen circles counting water without a headquarters is the cosmOS at work.
The currency
LUX is a light, tapped when something is real: the neighbor who fixed a tank earns one. Drops carry what was posted and verified. Seeds grow as circles grow.
The record
Your Book of Life holds the ledger next to the rest of your story. Every line says where it came from. Nothing is shared without your yes.
Phone and portal
Log a reading on your phone with WA\. Read the ledger season by season on WA\WA\, the portal on any computer. They stay in sync.
The ladder
The Tree of Life: Roots $9 a month or $108 a year, the ground a circle stands on. Self $333. Seed $1,111. Sapling $3,333. Sequoia from $5,555. Sapphire $99 a month. Star and Serene free, forever. You pay for the next rung only when the last one produced.
The promise
A person checks the reading before it counts: GOOD AS GOLD. No ads, ever. You can leave at any time and take all of it with you.

One thing to do this week

Count your roof

Measure the roof from above, in square feet. Find the normal rain for where you live, in inches a year. Multiply.

roof (sq ft) × rain (in) × 0.6234 = gallons a year
1,000 × 16.21 × 0.6234 ≈ 10,105 gallons in Kahului

Write the number in your Book with where each part came from. That is your first line on the ledger. Use the ledger on the Now page →

The first 108

Bring your roof

The first 108 citizens will be the Cosmopolitans, the founding citizens of the cosmOS. They cross free, with Self waived. The first ledgers start one roof at a time, from Waikapū.

Free to start. Pay as you grow. Earn as you learn.
